A celebrity-style Hollywood Hills home required organic features for contrast and to provide warmth in an otherwise hi-tech, open, contemporary interior full of glass, brushed steel, exposed i-beams, and a black, white, grey color pallet. To achieve the client's desired interior a pure white natural stone was used in the common areas and an almost black, solid wenge flooring was used in all bedrooms and stairways. To further compliment the contemporary color scheme the home's two-story grand entrance was clad in face-cut white marble. To achieve the goal of providing warmth to the interior while respecting the contemporary spirit of the property all entertainment areas and the master bath were fitted with custom designed solid African mahogany built-in cabinetry. The bars and vanities were hand fabricated and a custom stain was mixed to achieve just the right balance, still revealing wood grain despite an almost black color. The bars were topped off with 7-centimeter thick, monolithic solid African mahogany pieces stained in multiple layers of a clear coat allowing the wood to provide the one fixed color accent in the home. Above all, the monolith pieces complimented the brute power and scale of the home with very clean lines and non-traditional use of organic materials. An excellent example of an organic interpretation for a contemporary interior.
